Yuba City, CA -- If you suffer from chronic back pain, you're not alone. Back pain is the number one problem seen by Peter Bravos, M.D., and LaVonne Nickel, M.D., in Sutter North Medical Foundation’s new pain management department. Highly trained in pain management and anesthesiology, Dr. Bravos and Dr. Nickel believe that pain management procedures can help those suffering from chronic pain, effecting their personal, work and family life.
"Back pain probably causes more anguish and loss of work than any other chronic pain condition. It can really knock you out," said Dr. Bravos. "We need to let patients and primary care doctors know there are proven methods for diagnosing and treating back pain. A lot of people could feel much more comfortable."
One of the most common treatments performed in the Pain Management Department is the injection of steroids into the spine, through a lumbar steroid procedure. A series of three injections given every six months can effectively reduce and sometimes even eliminate back pain for months at a time.
"The condition is generally under-treated," says Dr.Nickel. "Patients often have no idea why they are still in so much pain after using just medications for relief, and aren't aware that pain management procedures may help them. Sometimes the pain disrupts their family and professional life preventing them from doing ever day things like playing with their children or sitting at a desk."
For those who suffer from back or other chronic pain, Dr. Bravos and Dr. Nickel recommend patients talk with their primary care physician about a visit to the Sutter North Pain Management Department.
Sutter North’s Pain Management Department is located in their Surgery Center at 460 Plumas Blvd. If you have a question about the pain management procedures at Sutter North Medical Foundation, call 530-749-5500.
